The Hatfield Regis Local History Society was formed, in 2000, from the Hatfield Heath History Group who had been responsible for producing A History of Hatfield Heath.
Attempts had previously been made to form a History Society in Hatfield Broad Oak and now representatives from both Villages met to write a constitution and form a committee.
Originally this committee comprised Liz Wright, Richard Farr, Les Towers, and Ivan Wybrew, later joined by Mary White, Bob Ward, Catherine Hockley and Brian Pugh.
In 2008 Robin Gurnett was elected Chairman when Liz Wright moved from the District, but sadly died in 2012 but leaving a valuable legacy of his local history researches.
From 2013 the Chairmanship of David Parish and its Committee has been quite stable ensuring that the growth and changes of history in the Regis have been well served. The present named Committee is shown on the website. Over a period of 7 years a series of publications and Power Point presentations has shown how the Village changes and developments have taken place contributing to an established archive.
The Aims & Objectives of the Society are:
To stimulate pubic interest and encourage the study of local history.
To help preserve records and objects and to co-operate with other local bodies with similar interests.
To bring together persons interested in the history of Hatfield Broad Oak, Hatfield Heath and Bush End.
In September 1997 a working party called the Hatfield Heath History Group met with the idea of producing a book on the History of Hatfield Heath. The 2000 Millennium book produced overwhelming interest which was a catalyst for the foundation of a successful Hatfield Regis Local History Society.
Hatfield Regis Local History Society was formed as a result of overwhelming interest shown after a village appraisal into what the parishioners wanted for the new millennium. Over the past 20 years the Society has become an established part of the Village community. It continues to research and develop historical material for past, present and future details to engage public interest.
